The Great Escape

For the last three weeks of pregnancy Carter was trying so hard to escape. He would pull his knees close to him and then kick upward at the top of my uterus causing him to jam his head to the bottom of my uterus over and over again. He had been trying so hard to get out of there, he just did not have enough room! after three failed weeks of his escape, I went to the doctor's office at 9:00 on Christmas Eve and got my membranes stripped. I was already dilated to a 4 and 90% effaced. I was cramping all day and having some contractions, but I didn't think I was in labor yet.

When we got to the hospital at 8 pm I was having major contractions two minutes apart for hours but it wasn't going anywhere. They have had a few girls come in before that have had their membranes stripped and had contractions for three days before they had their baby, so they were worried that that would happen to me so they wanted to keep me there overnight and see how everything was in the morning. They wanted me to sleep that night just incase this would go on for a couple days so they offered me some vicodin for the pain but I was worried it might slow things down or stop them completely, So they asked if I would atleast take a sleeping pill. They gave me two sleeping pills by 11:00 and I probably would have slept better had it not been for the major back pain going on because of Carter's body being sideways.

After waking up several times I called the nurse in to check up on me and she said I was at a 5 now and without warning me she popped my water and it just gushed everywhere. I was so shocked she did that, that I jumped up a little. Now that I was in active labor they called the anesthesiologist to my room to explain the epidural and how they put it in just incase I changed my mind later and decided to get one but I fell asleep 4 times while he was talking! So Matt constantly was waking me up while he was talking, I felt so bad. I guess he was getting pretty mad about it, but they gave me two sleeping pills, I should have been out like a rock. And i continued to fall asleep while the nurse was trying to talk to me. My whole body was falling asleep and the hand that had my I.V. in fell asleep and cramped so I couldn't even move it for a while. My hands were just shaky because my body wanted to fall asleep and i hadn't eaten anything in a while but i did fall asleep between every other contraction on accident.

From 2:30 when they popped my water until 4:00 I had dialated to an 8, then they checked me about twenty minutes later and I was at a 9 and just a few minutes after that I was keeping back the urge to push while they got the doctor over who had been opening up presents with her family. So she just took her precious time getting over there. Meanwhile it was just the one nurse, matt and me there. The nurse grabbed one foot and matt had the other while I pushed to get things ready for when the doctor came. By 6:18 am he was born. 7 lbs 8 oz and 19 1/4" long. Carter Matthew Mecham has atlast escaped that horrible place and probably decided he wanted back in where it was warm! I can't believe Matt held my leg up for the doctor and watched the whole time I was pushing. He did tear up a little when he saw his little boy come out. He has been so wonderful and is the cutest father ever. I am so thankful for the blessing that I was given before I went into the hospital. It was just what I needed. We love our cute little baby so much! And thank you so much to Mom Mecham for cleaning the basement and making it homie for when we got home, it was so nice.

Wintery Wonderland

This is what we woke up to seeing today.

That mound next to Matt is not a house.. It's the van!

This is how much snow was in our driveway this morning after Matt had shoveled three times yesterday.
